Hello, dear one!
About a week ago, I decided to close my natural body care company and stop writing for an online news source in order to devote more of my energy to The Bliss Revolution. In the week since, I have vividly remembered what a difference it makes when I only (or mostly) do those things which inspire me and bring me joy.
We are expansive, infinite beings — with limited physical energy. It makes sense, really. If our physical energy never waned, we would go go go beyond our bodies’ absolute limits. Dynamic physical energy is a manner of self-protection and self-preservation.
Having, as we do, relatively finite physical energy, it helps to be conscious about what we expend it on. If we have 100% at full energy capacity, and then proceed to use 90% of it for tasks and interactions that drain us and make us feel less than stellar, what does that say about quality of life? How blissful can our lives be if only 10% of our energy is expended on things and people we love and enjoy?
In my interpretation of reality, there are two categories of things on which I want to expend my energy. These are (1) things that make me happy and (2) things it serves or benefits me to do. The first category is self-explanatory. The second category includes things like working and paying bills. I’ve observed that many people are under the impression that we have to do those things. There is nothing in the world (outside of vital bodily functions) that we have to do. We are creatures of choice. We are gifted with that beautiful freedom. If we choose to stop working or paying bills, we will feel the effects of our choices — but we still have the freedom to choose.
So, I have begun a practice around this. It goes like this:
• Do the things I love more often. Make them a priority. Understand they are incredibly important. Do them with gusto!
• Find new ways to do the things that serve or benefit me that I might not love to do. I am limited only by my imagination and belief systems. If I believe that doing these things can be fun, they will be.
• Get rid of everything else. Yes, admittedly that may seem a bit draconian. But when you get down to brass tacks, it is what it is. We are taught to feel guilty for removing things and people from our lives — but I’m convinced this was invented by someone too afraid to do so. How else can we change the percentage of energy we spend on these things?
The bottom line is this: the secret to being happy is to be happy. And the trick is to let go and do it.
What are your experiences around expending energy on things in your life? What are your practices for bring joy into your life where this is concerned? You are an incredible being and I look forward to learning from you.
With love and light,
